Natural Allergy Remedy - Essential Oils For Allergies

Updated on May 26, 2017

Seasonal Allergies

Are you tired of your allergies keeping you from living your life the way you would like? If the onset of spring is not something you look forward to, then you may find some help here. I stumbled across a cure when I wasn't even looking.

I was using Essential Oils, mainly Lavender for other issues I was having. I didn't even realize for quite a while that it had eliminated my allergies. I was still on allergy medication, just to prevent the symptoms. It took me a while, as I gradually weaned myself off the medication, I finally realized that I had no more symptoms. It was then that I realized that it was the Lavender Essential Oil that was controlling my allergies.

If your like millions of other people who suffer from seasonal allergies, you don't really look forward to the flowers and trees blooming. It's a shame that you can't enjoy the beauty that spring brings. You probably don't go out and enjoy nature the way other people are allowed to. Even if you do have allergy medication, it makes you so tired and foggy that you don't really enjoy going out. So just when the weather gets nice enough for you to actually get out and enjoy it, you are trapped in your home.

Year Round Allergies

Worse than seasonal allergies, is Year Round Allergies. You never get a break from your allergies when they are with you all the time.

If your like me, I had allergies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. it was constant congestion, sneezing, runny eyes, wheezing and it finally led to asthma. I lived on antihistamine. I tried not to use it in the day, but had to use it at bedtime, or I wouldn't get any sleep.

I finally found a nasal spray that helped so I didn't have to be on the antihistamine all the time. But I didn't like the fact that I had to be on something all the time in order to function. I'm sure it's not a healthy way to live.

It felt like I was allergic to everything, inside and outside. Sometimes it was better, but it never seemed to go away completely. Of course the pollen season made it worse, but even in the middle of winter I would have major issues.

No More Allergy Medication

A few years ago I started using essential oils for various reasons. I had heard that some of them could be beneficial in fighting allergies, but I really didn't get around to trying them for my allergies right away. I was having issues with asthma, that I had not previously experienced. I never had asthma up until this point. I began using a blend of essential oil called Breathe, that had been recommended to me for asthma and breathing issues. It was helping with my wheezing and got me off of my inhaler. I was really impressed by it, but still did not relate it to my allergies at that time. I was still using the nasal spray at bed time so I could sleep through the night, not realizing that I didn't even need it anymore.

I began to notice that I didn't need anything during the day. I figured it was because the nasal spray had built up in my system over time. Gradually I began only using the nasal spray every other night and then only once or twice a week. Recently I realized that I hadn't really used anything at all for quite a while. I gradually stopped using any allergy medication at all. I have not used any allergy medicine for probably 5-6 months, which is extremely unusual for me. There have been no changes in my living or working conditions. Every year I end up on steroids sometime in February or March, after a visit to my doctor. It hasn't happened and I don't have any symptoms whatsoever of allergies or asthma.

I started thinking it must be that I use a lot of essential oils. Then it finally dawned on me that I use Lavender essential oil almost every day for one thing or another. I looked up essential oils for allergies and sure enough Lavender is one of the main ones that is recommended. I couldn't believe that I had cured myself without even realizing it. Lavender was my favorite essential oil for many reasons and now I have one more extremely good reason to love it.

Essential Oils For Allergies

I recommend only 100% Pure, Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils.

Only about 2% of essential oils are pure, so be careful which ones you buy. Just because it says it on the label, doesn't mean it's true. Please research online before you buy.

I still use Lavender Essential Oil on a daily basis. I use other various other essential oils for other issues as needed, but Lavender is my favorite.

I don't know why I didn't actually try it for allergies sooner. But I'm glad I stumbled into this. I have been so much clearer, with more energy. I have never found anything that works as well as this for allergies.

The Lavender was working great for my allergies so I still use it daily as I always have. I have began to use the Lemon and Peppermint mixed with the Lavender about once a week and as spring gets closer I will use the mixture more often. I feel like this summer is going to be a whole lot more enjoyable. I can't wait to get out and enjoy nature.

How To Use Essential Oils

To apply the essential oils mix a few drops of each. Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint. You can use a carrier oil to dilute, such as Jojoba or Fractionated Coconut Oil. Rub on the bottom of your feet or back of your neck. Or you can use in your body lotion like I do.

Another way to use these oils is to use an essential oil diffuser. These three oils have antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties that help kill bacteria in your home. Breathing essential oils is an excellent way to get them into your system.

You can also ingest the oils if you add a drop or two of each, Lavender, Lemon & Peppermint essential oil to water. Alternately, you can buy empty pill capsules at most health food stores, that you can put the drops in and just swallow like any other pill.

The best way to tell if it is safe to ingest an essential oil, is if it has a supplement facts label on it , like the one pictured above. If it doesn't have this type of label, I wouldn't recommend ingesting it.

One oil that is controversial to ingest is Tea Tree Oil, also known as Melaleuca. So you might want to do some research before ingesting it. I have ingested Doterra's Melaleuca with no issues, but you should decide for yourself. The bottle said it was safe and the company that makes it says that it's safe.

Nighttime Allergy Relief

Terra Cotta Pendant

A good way to get the benefits of essential oils throughout the day is to carry a small bottle with you. If you feel symptoms coming on you can open the bottle and inhale it or put a bit on the back of your neck. You can also buy a Terra Cotta Pendant that is worn around your neck. You put a few drops of the oils on it and you will get the benefits of breathing it all day, with no harmful side effects. This works especially well for children and they love the pendants.
